Carolyn Harvey

December 26, 1938 ~ November 27, 2019 (age 80)

Carolyn Drucilla Bradley Harvey passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 27, 2019. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, John Ernest Harvey and daughter Malia Anne Harvey as well as her parents and three brothers. She is survived by children Holly, John Jr. (Laura), Brad (Michele), and Elizabeth (Kirk) Hynek; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother John (Debbie) Bradley. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday December 21st at 2750 Melissa Dr, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.

Carolyn was born on December 26, 1938 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Frederick Belmont Bradley and Fern Brownlee Bradley. She was the fourth of five children and only daughter. After high school she attended the University of Kansas where she met her future husband while she was a percussionist in the KU Band. After marriage and graduation, Carolyn taught elementary school while John finished his education. This was followed by several years of bearing and raising children and moving every few years while John was in the military. When that assignment ended, the family moved to Emporia, Kansas where Carolyn pursued advanced degrees at Emporia State University and began a new career in school counseling, first in Emporia and later in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Throughout this nomadic life, “Home” was wherever Mom was.

Carolyn was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother with a wicked sense of humor and feisty personality who always put her kids first. Our home was filled with music, laughter, great food, and most of all, love. Her love extended to all those around her and we learned much about serving others from her. She will be remembered for her cherry mash candies, homemade rolls, noisy Christmas decorations, leaving food for critters who wandered through her yard, and especially her deep and abiding love for her family.

Special thanks to the caregivers at Brookdale Broadmoor who helped her weather the past several years while she was enduring the effects of dementia.

Until we meet again Mom!
