Flora Belle ForbesJuly 16, 1930 ~ November 11, 2018 (age 88)
Flora Forbes was born in Colby, Kansas to Levi Harrison Barnes and Edith Alfaretta Barnes on July 16, 1930. Flora grew up in Colby Kansas and graduated Colby High School in 1948. She then attended Phillips University in Enid, OK and earned her Bachelor’s Degree. In later years she continued her education and earned her Master’s Degree. She spent her career teaching in elementary education but preferred teaching kindergarten.
On June 21, 1953, she married “Rusty” Alden Otis Forbes in Colby, KS. They lived in Grand Rapids, MI; Miami, FL; Hobbs, NM; and landed in 1960 in Colorado Springs, CO which they then considered home. At that time, she worked for School District 3 in Security, CO until her retirement. They then lived in Colorado and Branson, Missouri before returning here in 2014.
She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and caring for her family. Nobody can top her famous pies, pie crust, chicken and dumplings, and her welcoming demeanor. We celebrate the life she lived, the pies she baked, the children she raised, and the love and smiles she gave.
Flora is survived by her daughter Judy (George) Egbert of Alamosa, CO, son Terry Forbes of Trinidad, CO, daughter Connie (Donny) Baker of Colorado Springs, and grandchildren Risten, Seth, and Noelle. She is also survived by brothers Levi (Patsy) Barnes of Raytown, MO, Roby (Lois) Barnes of Lincoln, NE and sisters Vetha (Roger) Cormier of Security, CO, and Birkley Barnes of Goodland, KS. Flora was preceded in death by her husband Rusty and her brother George.
