Gerald Lee Heckman, 71, passed unexpectedly February 7, 2018 in Colorado Springs. He was born October 3, 1946 in Garnett, KS to Robert & Mary (Mersman) Heckman. When a child the family moved to Colorado and in 1964 graduated from La Junta High School. He was a member of The Koshare’s.
After graduating he joined the United States Marine Corp. He served until 1968, after having served in Vietnam.
Upon discharging from the USMC he enrolled and attended Pittsburg State College in Pittsburg, KS; he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He spent his later years as a Casino Supervisor in Kansas City and later Cripple Creek.
Gerald played Fast Pitch Softball into his late 30’s, and enjoyed Golf until he could no longer. He was a member of the local Poker Club, and a member of The Frontier Mountain Men. Besides having a love for camping and fishing, being a part of the Rolling Springs Camping Club, Gerald loved motorcycles (and dirt bikes as a child) and cherished his “road trips” with his children.
Gerald is survived by his children, Mike and fiancé, Michelle; his daughter, Michelle; grandchildren, Nicky, Ryan, Joseph “Joey”, Austin and Dylan; his sister, Linda and husband, Mike; nephews, Brian and Robert, and nieces, Terrie and Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ron.
