Gregory Allen JohnsonApril 25, 1953 ~ September 26, 2018 (age 65)
Gregory Allen Johnson, 65, moved unexpectedly from this life September 26, felled at his Colorado Springs Home by a cardiac event that not even his large and generous heart could withstand.
Greg possessed an engineer’s mind for solving problems, a craftsman’s eye at building, and a dedicated fisherman’s love for the outdoors. He and wife Sandy traveled extensively during their 34 years together: by motorcycle and trailer in the U.S.; and on wide-ranging adventures that included Australia, Greece, Mexico and Italy. He especially enjoyed visiting family in Arizona and his native Minnesota.
During Navy duty with the famed Seabees, Greg learned construction skills that he later advanced into contracting work and beyond, becoming the highly respected Facilities Manager and Fire Marshall for the Penrose-St. Francis hospitals. He was also a saving grace to those with home projects, from the complicated (sturdy decks and sheds) to the whimsical (“right now I’m building a cat-io for my niece who wants her cats to be protected and still get outside” he said about a piece earlier this year).
And of course, there is the memorable garage/man cave he designed and built, housing his revered 1957 Chevy truck --- a place adorned with travel memorabilia.
He leaves his adoring wife, Sandy; his mother; his beloved grandson, Patrick; many brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews and their families; and innumerable grateful friends.
