Lowell Edward Socolofsky

Lowell Edward Socolofsky, born May 11, 1933 in Ramona, Kansas, went home to be with his Lord on August 3, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He graduated from Ramona High School, Ramona, Kansas in 1951. He married Patricia Kruse at Strassburg Baptist Church in Marion, Kansas on July 24, 1955. He received his college degree from Kansas State University in 1956, where he was commissioned into the United States Air Force in January 1956.  He was a B-47 and B-58 Hustler Defensive Systems Operator, served with NATO in Germany, was stationed with 7th Air Force HQ in Saigon, Vietnam, and retired after 23 years of service as the Branch Chief, Defensive Missiles Section, HQ Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB in Nebraska in 1978.  Following his Air Force career, he worked as a computer programmer and later taught at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  After his retirement from teaching in 1998, he and Patricia moved to Monument, Colorado, where together they enjoyed hiking, camping, off-road driving, and traveling around Colorado and the United States. 

During Lowell’s career in the Air Force, he and his family moved often and spent time traveling and camping together. He and Patricia traveled all over the world, including Germany, Australia, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Romania, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom, Thailand, Argentina and Mexico. He was active in Baptist churches wherever he lived, serving as chairman of deacons and Bible study leader, and working with missions groups in several countries.  He volunteered weekly for 18 years in the pharmacy at Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs.  He enjoyed woodworking, cutting firewood, photography, computers, and working on the family farm in Kansas. He especially loved time with his family.  Lowell was a quiet, humble, and generous man with a strong work ethic. His legacy of service to God, to his country and to others is reflected in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Kruse Socolofsky; his daughter Gina (Doug) Wamble of Colorado Springs; his daughter Rita (James) Pray of Des Moines, Iowa; his son David (Nancy) of Redondo Beach, California; his son John (Jennifer) of Larkspur, Colorado; his brother James (Karen) of rural Marion, Kansas; and his brother Harold (Pat) of College Station, Texas; ten grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Velma Meyer Socolofsky.

A private memorial service with military honors will be held at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he will be inurned. A memorial celebration will be held at Strassburg Baptist Church, Marion, Kansas, on September 28, 2019.  Donations may be made in Lowell’s memory to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care ( located at Penrose Hospital; or directed toward the Missions Program at Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO, 80917 (
