Richard Anthony HaberkornJanuary 2, 1943 ~ November 2, 2019 (age 76)
Richard Anthony Haberkorn, age 76, passed peacefully on November 2nd, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Richard was born in Sterling, Colorado on Jan. 2, 1943 to Catherine Frank and August Haberkorn. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Denver in 1961: Go Bulldogs! In 1966, he graduated from Regis University and went on to become an accountant at Watts-Hardy/Sinton Dairy. He was an incredible baseball and basketball coach and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Richard is survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Gloria Ann Haberkorn; their four children: Jeannene Halverson, Constance Janssen, Richard Haberkorn Jr. and Tammy Berven; his 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Kay Ferguson.
The family will remember Rich through the music of: “Luckenback, Texas”, “Mountain Music”, “Sunshine on my Shoulders”, “El Paso”, “Edelwiess”, “Okie from Muskogee”, and anything by John Denver. They will remember him by dancing his polkas: Beer Barrel, Liechtensteiner, and the Chicken Dance. Also, of course, the family will remember him by doing his favorite things: getting doughnuts at 5 am for the kids; picking night crawlers to prepare for Stillwater; fishing in the “old Spot”(preferably without his line crossed); or sitting around the campfire telling stories, always smoking a Dutch Master and always drinking a Coors Banquet. For his family, Richard was fun loving, dedicated, the best dressed, a jokester, a honyock, Santa, and, of course, unforgettable.
Richard’s vigil will be on Tuesday, November 5th at 5 pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Colorado Springs, CO. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 6th at 2pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Colorado Springs, CO. The Family is asking all to wear red, as it was Rich’s favorite color.
