Roy Eugene WerlineApril 20, 2019
Roy Eugene Werline passed away on Saturday 4/20/19. "Gene", Dad, was born near Paradise, MO in 1924 to Georgia Elizabeth Gentry and Jack Werline. He passed away in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 94.
Dad was an avid reader and a Depression era cheapskate (not an insult). He was born in a home with no indoor plumbing or electricity. He lived in Smithville, Missouri until third grade, and moved to Washington state where he spent the next seven years finally returning to Missouri to graduate from North Kansas City High School in 1943. He went on to earn his four year degree at William Jewell College.
He ended up preaching at the First Baptist Church in Platte City, Missouri in the late '50s to late 60s. Dad was the minister at The Hoover Church but was beginning to lose interest in the industry. He finished his career working for the State of Missouri in social services.
He served in the Philippines during WWII. He was a MP and a clerk at a hospital unit in Lujon.
He was a great dad and grandpa and always there to offer a hand or lend support or advice. Dad worked several jobs when I was a kid but still found time to create brilliant childhood memories for all the kids.
Dad was proceeded in death by his wife, Lois who passed away 2014. He leaves three children, Stephanie Sue, Joel Chandler and Philip Ray, two grandchildren Philip Jeffrey and Shelbi Lynne and five great grandchildren. His brother Bob still lives in Platte City.
Memorial services will be held and the date will be shared with his closest friends and family.
