Sean Joseph EhlingerJune 13, 1977 ~ November 8, 2018 (age 41)
Sean Joseph Ehlinger was born on June 13, 1977 in Washington, DC to Raymond and Joyce (Ingalsbe) Ehlinger. During his childhood, he lived with his family in Hawaii, Oklahoma and Kansas. He enjoyed a fun and happy childhood growing up with his three sisters, Krystal, Holly and Nicole. During his high school years, Sean was very involved in the Thespians program and regularly starred in many of their productions. In 1995, he graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas.
In April of 1996, Sean enlisted in the United States Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia as an Ammunition Supply Specialist. In September 2001, Sergeant Ehlinger entered the United States Army Reserve as a Combat Medic. In 2003 he completed his Licensed Practical Nursing decree and was awarded the military occupational specialty of 68W/M6. On September 16, 2009 he commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. Five years later, he was promoted to Captain while serving as a Platoon Leader and Medical Surgical Nurse. From September 2015 until July 2018, Captain Ehlinger served as the Fort Carson Warrior Transition Battalion, HHC Nurse Case Manager Officer in Charge.
On June 6, 2006, Sean married Tanya Larae Hunt in Grants Pass, Oregon. Shortly after getting married, they settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado where they began to build their family. Together, they have four boys, who have collectively and joyfully fulfilled Sean's wish for a healthy, happy home full of love, laughter and shenanigans. Raising his boys, alongside Tanya, was his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. With his boys, he enjoyed Scouts adventures, rafting, skiing, camping and, last, but not least, cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. He also loved political debates, playing with his dog, Barry, and the numerous road trips he took with Tanya and the boys. Sean was the best dad and husband anyone could ask for; his devotion to his family, his boys and his wife was unparalleled.
Sean's faith continued to grow stronger with each passing year. It was as if his love for Christ and love of life became enmeshed together into an unstoppable force for all of us to witness. In the last several years, Sean continued to radiate love and light, and his relationship with Jesus became a stronger presence for him each day. Over the past several months, Sean allowed his love of the Lord and faith in Christ to guide him in helping all those around him understand this last, most difficult part of his journey. He consistently demonstrated courage, bravery, love and hope in the face of great adversity. His faith in Christ ensures that he is at peace now and with God in Heaven, and his life and love while on this Earth will be an enduring memory for all of us.
