What an amazing woman...she touched so many lives throughout her time, helping so many families see the light and love of motherhood.  She brought joy and comfort in those deeply challenging moments of motherhood.  I will forever be grateful for her love and support.

I met Cathy through the La Leche League when she commissioned me to crochet nipple hats for the annual fundraisers. Over the years, I made upwards of 300 hats and every time I see a baby wearing one I think of her! What really impressed me about Cathy was her energy, positive outlook and motivation. I instantly liked her and I loved her message. She made my children healthier. I nursed my son for two years and my daughter is going on 20 months of nursing. I directly attribute our successful breastfeeding relationship to Cathy and all the team at La Leche League.

To Cathy's family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Cathy was such a wonderful friend and nurse and "lactation buddy" for me. We spent many a time laughing about situations we'd had in our nursing careers. She was a mentor for me as well as a trusted friend. I will miss her very much and know that the countless families she helped remember her with appreciation for all she did for them.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Cathy in 1986, after the birth of my first daughter. She was recommended to me when I had trouble with breastfeeding. She made more than one home visit and helped me tremendously. I was fortunate to be able to know her more and benefit from her knowledge and help through LLL meetings and events. She was a beautiful and caring person. Many of us were lucky that she chose lactation help as her career and calling.

To the Janoka Family:

I knew Cathy from Memorial Hospital Mother/Baby Unit. I was an RN in the Nursery there. Cathy was such a kind woman who had a real compassion for her work....assisting and educating new mothers in breast feeding their newborns. Cathy always had a smile on her face no matter what! She also was a wonderful teacher with lots of patience----especially  when dealing with some of the rest of us and our shortcomings with lactation. Cathy will be greatly missed!!! RIP Cathy. Prayers go out to all of her family during this sorrowful time and for months to come.

I first met Cathy when I moved to Colorado Springs almost 20 years ago. She was a tireless encourager of me as a La Leche League Leader and a pregnant/nursing mother. Eventually she became my biggest supporter as an IBCLC in private practice. She brought me alongside her professionally every step of the way, introducing me to other lactation professionals and advocates, sharing resources with me, taking me to Journal Club, allowing me to shadow her in her work, helping me get a teaching job with the hospital, and eventually referring many clients to me in private practice and helping me help them. Everyone knows Cathy was selfless in her mission to support and love breastfeeding mothers and babies, but she was also effective in teaching and nurturing other lactation professionals who could benefit from her knowledge and vast experience. Her passing will leave a huge void in our breastfeeding community as well as in my life. I appreciated her cheerleading as much as I appreciated her sharing of information. My thoughts are with her children, whom I feel like I know after 20 years of raising boys in her shadow with her advice the whole way. As much as she loved her mission, it was Steven, Ray, and Brad (and now Rachel and Charlotte) who were the light of her life. You are all in my thoughts.

Cathy was the sweetest soul and never failed to give her deep knowledge to all of her colleagues through her unwavering participation in Lactation Journal Club and through her patients at Memorial and her private practice. We met many years ago at La Leche League and Cathy was a dear colleague and friend ever since. She made a big impact on moms and babies and the world is a better place because of her.  I can't believe she is no longer with us. My deepest sympathy on her passing.

Cathy was a wonderful teacher & friend. When i hired her on Mom-Baby unit, little did I know that she would become my mentor in breastfeeding teaching to my patients. She was always kind, compassionate and had so much common sense. She became  good friend and I will miss her so much. Rest in peace,Cathy. My deepest sympathy to her whole family whom she loved more than amything.

I met Cathy when I was a NICU RN at Memorial Central in 1997. She noticed my passion for helping breast feeding mothers and offered me a position with Lactation "whenever I was ready". In 1999, I contacted her, after my 2nd baby was born. She gave me much support with breast feeding this baby. I came to work with her on Mother-Baby in 2001. She would bring Bradley to work and he would sit politely in the office and read. I always teased him that in another life, I would marry him... She had so much love for her boys. I am an LC at Memorial Hospital, back to work for 5 years now, and attribute everything I know to Cathy. She gave me the greatest gift, added to my passion, always praised my efforts in helping mothers, and recently, after passing the IBCLC exam for the 2nd time, gave me my official pin that I wear on my badge. We have met recently for some dinners and had 3 hour long conversations about life, love, motherhood, men, you name it...I will always value her years of mentorship and presence, but most of all, her dear friendship. I will miss you deeply Cathy. I love you.

I just want to say how sad I am at the passing of my friend Cathy.  Cathy and I, along with with Katy Lebbing and several other  LLL Leaders, became friends through the LLL Alumnae Association.  I always looked forward to seeing her and hanging out with her at the different destinations that we all went to.  New Mexico was the first time we really connected and one night we talked for hours.  Last summer when she came to Illinois, to visit family, we met for breakfast on July 30.  We had a long and lovey conversation about our lives, our kids and her happiness about her expected grandchild.  Even though we lived far apart and didn't see each often, I really loved her and will greatly miss her.

Cathy became a dear friend over the past 23 years as I got to know her in her capacity as a LLL leader and a Lactation Consultant.  As a midwife I always told my clients that Cathy was the “premier” Lactation Consultant in the Springs.  One of the last moms she helped was my daughter last November.  I flew Courtney from Dallas to CS because after a month of struggling to breastfeed her first baby, she needed Cathy’s expertise.  Courtney arrived with her one-month old infant, with a raging breast infection and a baby who had tonic bite reflex from a botched delivery at a hospital in Dallas.  Cathy did 2 in-home visits that week at a critical time and successfully helped my daughter overcome her problems.  Courtney credits Cathy with her still breastfeeding her 6+ month old baby.  Our community and the world has lost a great woman.  Cathy, you are missed!

I was so very saddened to hear of Cathy's passing.  She was so wonderful to connect with me and assist families who did not have the means to have an in home lactation consultant.  She was tireless in serving the families with whom she served. Please know that Cathy's heart will go on through all she has come in contact with as she is a light and model of the care for families we all would like to achieve.  My thoughts and prayers go to her family.

Cathy has been an inspiration to me in our shared professions. She never flinched at the difficult or challenging issues and gave freely of her heart, her support and her knowledge. She will be greatly missed in the lactation community. I am so saddened by her passing but so grateful to have the honor of sharing just a small part of her life. I will hold you in my thoughts and prayers in the difficult days of your changing journey. Love and hugs to all family members.....Lorry Watkins
