David Lee Lucero passed away on March 1, 2021 in Colorado Springs. David was born on July 5, 1955 to Margaret Lucero Mestas in La Junta, Colorado. From a young age, David was raised by Margaret and his stepfather, Manuel Joseph Mestas.
For most of his life, David lived in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1974. David was a maintenance worker at the Plaza of the Rockies before he retired due to health concerns.
For several years, David was a softball umpire and a basketball official. One of his favorite activities was officiating high school basketball games in the Colorado Springs area.
David was a passionate fan of the Denver Broncos and the Denver Nuggets. David also enjoyed college basketball and he especially liked to evaluate the officials on television.
David was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Crawford Lucero; and his longtime partner, Lois Vanraalte Rivera.
David is survived by his daughters, Olivia Diaz and Sandra Diaz. He is also survived by his brother, Manuel Mestas (Sherri). There are also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the extended Lucero and Mestas families.
