Helen Rosalinda (Thomas) Mitchell, age 98, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1958, passed away November 7, 2022. Helen was born on November 8, 1923 in Osmond, Nebraska to Charles and Katherine Thomas. She graduated from Osmond High School in 1942. While still living at home, Helen worked for her mother in the family’s grocery store.
On February 12, 1945, she married Leonard “Mitch” Mitchell and they had three daughters. The couple lived in West Point, NE before moving to Colorado Springs, CO in 1958. Helen worked in a variety of businesses including the Colorado Springs Public Schools lunch program, Shepard’s Citations Publishing Company and retail positions at ENT Air Force Base and Holiday Inn Gift Shops.
After retirement, Helen and Mitch remained very busy volunteering. Helen worked 30 years with Pikes Peak Hospice and Mt. St. Francis/Penrose Hospital. She volunteered in the soup kitchen and she and Mitch also spent countless hours collecting donations and delivering them to the Mission in the San Luis Valley.
Helen and Mitch were parishioners at St. Mary’s Cathedral for over 60 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband Leonard “Mitch,” daughter Mary Kay Jenkins, parents Katherine and Charles Thomas, three brothers Charles, Robert and Ralph and a great great grandson, Tyler Romines.
Surviving her are daughters Patty (Jim) Romines and Sue Ann (Paul) Lee and son-in law Tom Jenkins. Grandchildren: Tim (Linda) Romines, Tamra Misak, Daniel (Sabrina) Kleinheitz, and Tiffany Kleinheitz. Great grandchildren: Michael Misak, Taeytum and Tristan Romines, Belle and Ryder Kleinheitz. Very dear friends Linda and Tim Boucher.
Services will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 22 W. Kiowa St., Colorado Springs, CO on Monday, November 28 at 10 a.m. with a rosary service at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at St. Mary’s Columbarium.
