James “Jim” Kevin Higney, 68, died Thursday, March 23, 2023 in Colorado Springs,Colorado.
Jim was born July 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Charles and Mary Jane Higney.
In his early years, Jim grew up in New York and graduated from Division High School, in Levittown. He attended VEEB Practical Nursing School and graduated in 1976 with a nursing degree. He moved to Colorado in 1977, and began his nursing career and established his life and home with his family.
Mr. Higney had a passion for nursing and enjoyed his work and patients. He was an avid sports fan. He loved John Elway and The Denver Broncos. James spent several years on the softball field, playing in multiple leagues in Colorado Springs. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren at all their sport activities and was always eager to hear how they were doing. He loved the mountains and enjoyed making jokes and having conversations with people.
He is survived by his former wife, Cathy Higney and their children, daughter Samantha (Ryan) and two sons, Chris (Danielle) and Bryan (Carrie). Eight grandchildren, Theresa, Austin, Erin, Natalee, Taylor, Easton, Andrew and Zoey. His brother, Chuck (Karen) Higney and three sisters, Mary Jane Romano, Helen (Robert) Cooper and Ann (Rusty) Lawson and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Jane Higney and his nephew, Jimmy Bird.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at Cappadona Funeral Home at 2 PM. The family encourages everyone to wear their favorite sport t-shirts/jersey to the service. All memorial donations can be made to the family to cover final expenses. Remaining donations will be donated in memory of Jim, to Widefield Parks and Rec to support youth athletes who need financial assistance to play sports.
