John Kereszturi, dearly loved by his wife Irmgard, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and surviving brother and sisters, nieces and nephews in Canada, Hungary, and the United States; passed away at the age of 90 on Friday April 14, 2023. John will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 25 at 1:00pm.
John was born in Dévaványa Hungary, to Lajos and Teréz and at the age of 15 left Hungary during the early stages of what would become the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He immigrated to the United States in 1951 where he was sponsored to study at Orange Coast college in California, but after 2 years was drafted into the Army where he served for 28 years with tours in Korea, Vietnam, and numerous tours to Germany. He met his bride while on assignment in Germany in the city of Darmstadt, and they were married in 1957 in Laguna Beach, California.
Upon retiring from the military, John began a new successful career as an insurance salesman which he so thoroughly enjoyed because it allowed him to meet and converse with many people. He often shared stories of the many families he met while working across Colorado and had an incredible ability to recall and relate many details about them and the areas he visited.
John's loves were his family, his Hungarian heritage including its music and rich poetry, and photography. His greatest love was his wife, Irmgard, to whom he was married for more than 65 years. He was very gifted in learning languages, and though he mostly spoke German with his wife he maintained a special love and appreciation for the Hungarian language.
He will be greatly missed, missed beyond what any words can say, by his wife Irmgard, their children Judy and her husband Doug, Peggy, Johnny and his wife Ricky Ann and family, his granddaughter Leslie and her husband Freddie, grandson Seth, and great-grandchildren Alex and Dexter, and many many more family and friends whose lives he touched.
We love you, Dad, and cannot wait to see you in God's new world when His will is finally being done on earth as it is in heaven. We cannot wait until we again see your magnificent smile, bright blue eyes and hear your hearty laugh. When every day will be even better than the best sunny day in May than you could have ever imagined...for all eternity.
