Margaret J. Schinstine, 86, died on April 13, 2023. She was born February 23, 1937 in Iowa to Delbert and Lena May Stearns. As a young adult, Margaret moved to Denver and then to Colorado Springs where she was employed in the Data Entry department by the USAF Academy Association of Graduates. She had become a flight attendant with American Airlines prior to moving back to her previous position at the USAFA.
Margaret married Kenneth Schinstine in November 1961, becoming the mother to Kenneth’s two children, loving them as her own.
She is survived by her son and his wife, William and Diane Schinstine and her daughter and her husband, Karen and James Edie; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, SM/SGT Kenneth B. Schinstine; a grandson, Jeffery Schinstine and a brother, Eugene Stearns.
Margaret graduated from Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs with an associates degree in General Studies. She served as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church and was involved in many bible study groups, including Bible Study Fellowship. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary until her death.
Interment will be at the USAF Academy Cemetery on May 8, 2023 at 11:00 am. Family and friends are welcome (be prepared to show ID to access the base). Following the burial we will celebrate Margaret’s life at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St. in Colorado Springs at 2:00 pm.
