After graduating from high school, Mary Lou moved to Denver and received her secretarial certification from business school. After moving back to Leadville, she reconnected with Carl and married him in November 1959. Mary Lou and Carl moved to Ft. Collins where she worked while Carl finished college. Later the family moved to La Junta and Mary Lou worked for the county social services department. Eventually, the family relocated to Alamosa and Mary Lou worked as office secretary at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After moving to Colorado Springs, Mary Lou kept busy babysitting her grandchildren. She had many hobbies including handwriting analysis, reading voraciously, crocheting, playing bingo, bowling (in her younger years), playing the slot machines in Cripple Creek, and listening to her favorite musicians Elvis, Sinatra, and her brother’s band. Mom and Dad always had a place in their heart and home for anyone who needed a place to hang their hat.
