Mike Fermin Aguirre died February 9, 2020 in Colorado Springs. He was born May 2, 1936 in Redwing, CO to Maria Onofre (Gallegos) and Jose Porfirio Aguirre. He was a long-time resident of La Veta, Colorado, having grown up on a farm. After HS Mike joined the US Marine Corp. After serving five (5) years he married Virginia and they had four (4) children.
He was a Cement Mason working on large Union jobs such as Falcon Air Force Station, airports and dams, to name a few, here and in California. He enjoyed being outdoors; when younger he was known to have “Stream Fished”, going down to the rivers and streams and catching fish by hand. He would go camping and enjoyed picking piñon nuts near Gardner, CO and would go every day until he had picked a gunny sack full. He would then roast them and eat them like a squirrel all winter long.
He was a history buff and liked following today’s politics; he a was Fox News watcher. Above all, Mike loved being with his family and teaching his grandchildren the value of a dollar – visiting thrift stores and garage sales; he was also known as “The Picker”, he was very frugal, but even more generous.
Mike is survived by his children and their spouses, Mike, Jr. and Elizabeth Aguirre, Irene and Ron Aragon, Carol and Steven Heisch and Raymond and Laura Aguirre; grandchildren, Dominic & Rachel Garcia; Stephanie Garcia, Virginia & Chris Bowman, Bernadette Aguirre, Michelle Aguirre, Eric & Tonya Aragon, Brett & Nikole Aragon, Candice & James Tippey, Hunter Heisch, Selena Aguirre, Emilie Aguirre and Aletha Aguirre; great grandchildren, Jenna, Donni, Nevaeh, Dominic, Isabelle, Grace, Keilani, Amaya, Christopher, Valentino, Jeremiah, Taylor, Jakob, Anna, Emma, Ryver, Kaia, Kelsie, Amelia, Natalie, Kyler and Mac.
