Rev Paul R. Edie

June 20, 1931 ~ October 3, 2021 (age 90)

Obituary

Rev. Paul Robert Edie moved to his eternal home on 3 Oct. 2021 at the age of 90.  He passed peacefully surrounded by loving family.

He was born 20 June, 1931, in Marion, Indiana, in the home of his maternal grandparents.  His growing up years were spent in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In his youth, he enjoyed bowling, playing baseball, and softball.  He went to college in Haviland, Kansas and York, Nebraska.  He received his Masters of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary, in Dayton, Ohio in 1957.

Paul married Shirley Loraine Hedges, on 30 June, 1953, in Offerle, Kansas. They celebrated 68 years together.

During Paul's senior year at United Theological Seminary, he had a student position as Youth Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church.  His full time ministry began in Colorado where he pastored rural congregations of the Evangelical United Bethren Church for three years.  He was then called back to Ohio to serve, pastoring Colorado Ave. Baptist Church in Dayton, and then Broadview Baptist Church in Cleveland.  He then served for 24 years on the state staff of the Ohio Baptist Convention, as an area minister and overseeing Ohio's two campgrounds.  He had a deep and personal Christian faith, and his wise counsel was sought out by many, even up to the last few months of his life.

While living in Granville, Ohio, Paul served on the volunteer fire department as an EMT and chaplain.  For many years, he was  also  manager of the Ohio Baptist Minister's Credit Union.

In 1994, Paul and Shirley retired to Colorado Springs, Colorado.  They attended Highland Park Baptist church for 26 years, serving on many committees.  He was on the board of the Pikes Peak Credit Union, and worked part-time for Avis, as a lead driver.  He spent his leisure time golfing, traveling, and loved cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Denver Broncos.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, James [Karen] Edie; John [Jacqueline] Edie; daughters, Teresa Numbers; Roberta “Bobbie” [Paul] Jacobson; Marilyn [Steve] Shannon, all living in the Colorado Springs vicinity.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; George Lester Edie and Helen Maurine [Bish] Edie; brother, Richard Nelson Edie; and great grandson, Linton James “LJ” Numbers.
