Roger Davis Hunt 88, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2020. He was born March 25, 1932, in Colorado Springs, St Frances Hospital, to Donald Leigh Hunt and Blanche Ann (Smith) Hunt of Colorado Springs. The family lived in Harding, Montana and Spokane, Washington before returning to Colorado Springs in time to begin his Junior year at Colorado Springs High School (now Palmer High School).
Roger graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1950. He enjoyed participating in many high school activities. He loved playing the clarinet in the band and was recognized as an especially talented football player. Roger’s high school team won the state football championship in 1950.
Following high school, Roger received a four-year football scholarship to Colorado University, Boulder, Colorado and played on CU’s football team from 1951 to 1954. In his senior year, he led the team in his position as quarterback. Roger was also a member of the athletic fraternity Phi Gamma Delta.
Roger married Gay (Gillham) Hunt, also a CU student from Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 22, 1953. They were married for 20 years and they had three children, Leigh, Pam and Megan.
Roger joined the United States Air Force after CU graduation. He trained as a navigator in the service; however, after the war there was not the need for navigators and Roger returned to Colorado University to complete law school earning his Juris Doctorate from Colorado University in 1960.
Roger served Colorado Springs as a lawyer for 60 Years. His practice included trials as an assistant district attorney, civil litigation in the areas of personal injury, family law and general practice. He enjoyed working with several different law partners before joining Haney, Howbert, and Akers. This firm later merged with Holland & Hart and Roger worked as a partner with Holland & Hart for many years until opening his own firm and retiring in 2014.
Roger married Margaret (Maggie) Hunt in 2008 and they shared many wonderful years and adventures together with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Leigh Hunt and Blanche Ann (Smith) Hunt, sister, Barbara Ann Hunt and son, Joseph Leigh Hunt. He is survived by Margaret Hunt, his daughters, Pam Hunt Stenhjem and Megan Hunt Schlueter; grandsons, Ethan Stenhjem, Logan Schlueter and Jacob Schlueter; and son-in-laws, Rand Stenhjem and Rich Schlueter.
A memorial service will be held on 1/14/21 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Due to COVID restrictions, if attending the service in person, preregistration is required by calling the First Presbyterian Church at (719) 884-6100.
