The girls may never see this but I just want you all to know what a profound effect you three and your father and mother (and grandmother Irene) had on my life and what I became. I was the young lad (at the time) who drove Irene out to the Springs from El Dorado KS several times a year and not only visited during Thanksgiving but rode the horses up mountain to cut down Christmas trees, skiing with Rosie, snowmobiling with the entire family, and worked on the ranch during the entire summer of 1968 (I believe), living with Rosie and Jack. Your parents were simply amazing genuine people who just did things right. I loved getting to know Terry (attended her college graduation) , Sunny and Leigh Ann and loved all three of you. (Your grandmother did her best to play matchmaker with one of you....I guess it was just not meant to be). I held Russ (as well as your dear mother) in the highest esteem, adored every evening at Chuckwagon and will forever cherish my memories with all the family during many holiday visits. God bless you all and keep you healthy/safe during this challenging period. (My best to Rosie/Jack if you could share my message with them and both of their boys.)

Dear Terri - I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. You are all in our prayers and thought. I'm sorry we won't be able to be at the service on Saturday. You will be in my thoughts as I'm sure it will be full of memories . I pray it won't be to difficult for you. Remember the Lord says: "I am with you ALWAYS and will never leave you".

I was sad to hear about the passing of Russell Wolfe, a visionary for the preservation of the Old West and an advocate for the community of Colorado Springs. I was fortunate enough to sit next to Russ at a dinner event, several years ago, at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. He will be greatly missed. Prayers and condolences from those at the Church on the Ranch.

As I write this, I am unsure how to put my feelings into words. I knew Russ for almost a year, was not quite a year, but almost. I had the privilege of being one of many caregivers Russ and his family came to like, and what a blessing that came to be.
Leigh Ann, Terry and Sunny (whom I have never met, but wish I did) your father was an amazing man, I have enjoyed listening to the many stories the Flying W has brought to you and your family and how much Russ loved Colorado Springs. & how much Colorado Springs loved him. The laughter, the stories, the singing, all the memories I will forever cherish in my heart.
Russ, thank you for the countless memories, and the things you taught me in just a year of knowing you. You will be remembered by me, I am saddened to have heard the loss of a great man, leader, and a man of Christ. Your friendship will always be valuable to me. Rest in peace, cowboy, hope you rode all the way to the Heavens.

There aren't any words big enough to describe the impact your father had on the community, or me. He taught me about hard work, Tom Mix, and how important a team was. All we can hope is to reflect some of what he gave us back into the world.

We sincerely regret the passing of your father Russell.
We enjoyed the Flying W after moving here in 1999 and look forward to the reopening.
As neighbors, we enjoy looking over at the gentle pastures and cows as they are
a daily reminder of our own lives as kids in Iowa and South Dakota.
Best of luck to you and the family.

My deepest sympathy to the family and community. One of my fondest memories as a 7 year old kid from Tennessee was when my Dad did his 2 weeks of reserve duty at the AF Acadamy and the family had a vacation and spent an evening with the Flying W Wranglers. I was fortunate to be able to take my wife there in 2004 before she passed away from cancer to share one of my childhood memories with her. So thankful for his vision.

Russ was such a joy to be around. He had such a great since of humor and was such a wonderful friend. He enjoyed so much in telling stories of the past history of the area in Colorado Springs as well as his property in Del Norte. And of his own history. We never got to know Marion but enjoyed the Flying W every chance we got with friends and family who visited through the years since we moved here in 1989. Russ and Jeanie were so much fun to be around.

Your parents were a tremendous blessing to the City of Colorado Springs. What visionaries they were! I grew up in California, although we were from Victor in Teller County. We came back every year to spend the summer with our grandmas, one in Victor and the other here in the Springs. We looked forward all year to coming back to Colorado and one of the highlights of our time was going to the Flying W Ranch with all our aunts, uncles and cousins. When may husband and I moved back here in 1977, we became everyone's favorite vacation spot aha. No one's visit was ever complete without a trip to the Flying W. It broke my heart when you lost the town to the Waldo Fire. Thank you God that your dad knew how important the Ranch is to all of us who are cowboy wannabes. Saying prayers that he rode in the Light, all the way Home..

Some of my favorite memories in life were spent on your ranch, in your presence and with your beloved daughter, Leigh Ann. Rest peacefully with the Lord. I will always carry you in my heart.

Terry, Sunny and Leigh Ann
The years of working at the ranch are still some of my fondest memories. I still tell people that I learned more about business from Russ Wolfe than I did from four years of college. Our prayers are with your family.

Dear Terry, Sunny, and Lee Ann - With your Dad's passing so many memories of the early days of Woodmen School come to my mind. Box Lunches, Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Sumner teaching the six grades in a two-room schoolhouse.. The long hours spent with your Mom and others counting ballots by hand before voting machines. PTA meetings with most every parent present and enjoying them. because your Dad as the president made them interesting. My love and sympathy to all of you from the Gould family.

Wolfe Family, especially his daughter Leigh Ann, who was wonderful with me, & shared her dad's life story & accomplishments with me, further increasing my admiration for this Colorado
