Winter Holiday 05

Ruth Ann (Shaw) Kenyon

July 1, 1934 ~ September 3, 2022 (age 88)

Ruth Ann (Shaw) Kenyon was born on July 1, 1934, in Gregory, SD with her twin brother, Richard, to Orvil Leroy and Rubie Ann (Rose) Shaw. They were the youngest of the Shaw children. Richard did not live beyond infancy and the older siblings provided much love and protection for their little sister. Ruth delighted in her big sister Marian, twin brothers John and James and brother Paul. Ruth graduated from 8th grade at Keya Paha County Public Schools in Springview, NE in June of 1948, and she continued her education with correspondence courses from the American School.

Ruth was swept off her feet by a young man she met at her church, Herbert Kenyon. During their courtship, they exchanged many cards and letters while Herbert was enlisted in the US Air Force and their love grew. Herbert was discharged from the service in December 1955, and they married the following summer on June 29, 1956.

They made their home in Johnstown, NE farming at the Kenyon family farm. In December 1967, they moved to Ainsworth, NE. Their family grew over those years beginning with Marcia in 1957, Wesley in 1959, Harlan in 1961, Starla in 1963, Orvil in 1964, and Cathryn in 1971. In June 1972, the family moved to Spencer, NE when Herbert was transferred to a larger route with Old Home Bread. After years of prayer, seeking God’s direction, and discernment, a decision was made for Herbert to attend Nazarene Bible College. With one daughter at Mid-America Nazarene College, they moved the rest of the family to Colorado Springs in August 1978. They settled into city life, but Nebraska and the Cornhuskers never left their hearts!

Ruth pursued a new career path after moving to Colorado Springs and became a Tupperware consultant, rapidly becoming a manager. She enjoyed a thriving business, earning many accolades and honors, and supplemented the family income for 14 years.

Ruth loved her church family and faithfully served in many capacities over the years. Most notable were her great casseroles, breads and desserts she brought to potlucks and socials. Her warm smile and enveloping hugs were a hallmark of her love for all. Unseen were her hours of prayers for those she loved. Her faith never wavered in those prayers, and she counted on God to answer.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Orvil and Rubie Shaw; sister Marian (Raymond) Gowan; brothers Richard, Paul, and James Shaw; son, Orvil Kenyon; son-in-law, Josh Kendricks; and sister-in-law, Eunice Shaw.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert C.
