Sonny Bruce Smith

February 10, 1959 ~ June 17, 2020 (age 61)

Sonny Bruce Smith, 61 of Nebraska passed away suddenly in Denver Colorado on June 17, 2020.  Sonny was 1 of 13 children born to Gertrude & Paschel Smith. He was born on February 10, 1959 in Williamson, WV. He grew up in Rising Sun, MD but loved to travel all over, his life was an adventure. He spent a lot of time Colorado which was his most favorite place to be. The beauty there he said could never be captured in a photo, you needed to experience it.  He had such a free spirit & a bit of a gypsy soul. He loved life to the fullest even when times were tough, he said it built character.  He could quote scripture from the bible and show you exactly where to find it. He could always make you smile no matter what kind of day you were having because he was so funny & witty. He enjoyed cooking and would swear his compared to Guy Fieri, cause DDD was his favorite. He had a huge heart, like his mother, that overflowed with love for his family and friends.  He was one who never met a stranger and was a very “Happy go lucky” person. He loved music and would dance & sing out loud no matter where he went and who was around.  He loved to spend time with his grandsons by fishing with Xavier, and facetiming with little Andrew. Calling his family and keeping up to date with everyone’s lives was something he cherished on a daily. He was everyone’s uncle Sonny and addressed everyone as “honey”.  He had a true gentleness about him when it came to nature and animals just like his mother… We called him the dog whisper and he loved it.  This man can never be replaced and will be missed by so many. His stories and memories are what we must keep alive.

He is survived by his daughters Sunny Smith & Stevi & AJ Swift; grandsons Xavier Smith & Andrew Swift; Fiancé Darlene (cisco) Holmes; Siblings Penny & Russ Holbrook, Nikki Staton, Terry & Anna Smith, Faye & Ed Brock, Jerry & Joann Smith, Donnie & Doris Smith, Sheila & Danny Pugh, Leon Smith & fiancé April Wiggins, Greg & Cheryl Smith, Charlene & Chet Caldwell, Dennis & Sandi Smith; 33 nieces & nephews and numerous grand nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude & Paschel Smith, Stepfather Bill Eckman, Brother Randy Smith & former wives Katherine Elaine Smith & Barbara Ann Smith.
